New York and A Million Dreams

Oh, marble-spired Manhattan, I look into your thousand eyes at dusk,

And your thousand eyes look back at me, kindled with lights over the harbor.
You hold the blue sky sets like wings on your mountain peaks of splendor,

And Will you hold the sky until the world ends and the dream is gone, Oh Manhattan.

(Edwin Curran)

New York. People say the city is challenging the limits of concrete jungle sky. People say, people busy with worldly affairs until almost no time to spare and mirrored. People say the city is about enjoying life as much as possible. They say again, this is about the rigors of city life in the Bronx ...

Lots of images are projected city population of 8 million people in the east coast of the United States. Is like the mecca of modern civilization, images of New York disseminated through popular media: film, television, stage and books. Within a year, there may be one we watch films set in life in New York.

The reality is that New York is a city that is not much different from other metropolitan cities in the world, call it like Jakarta or Bangkok. Busy. Workers, tourists, and many others flocked to the city center every day and back again into the surrounding area, possibly to and from different states.

Manhattan

As individuals who now spends most of the time in Jakarta, I found many things similar between Jakarta and New York. Of course, with the breath and the different rules. Both have the same rapid rate. Both are equally solid. Both had a seizure of land entrants.

One thing that differentiates local and New York is the quality of life. With the same circumstances, live fast-paced, dense population and high stress levels; Jakarta residents are not supported by public means that as efficiently as New York. New York has a public transport network is sufficient to reach many areas, with expectations for a much better service. Unlike other major cities in the United States such as Los Angeles, for example, transport culture in New York is a transit culture, not culture or two four-wheeled vehicles.

New York has a public space that makes the city landscape into the container mass of activities that merge the private domains. Here, the private domains "forced" to respect the public domains. Ultimately the beneficiaries are public.

When I feel comfortable to be outdoors, that's when I felt the city was good for me. As if the entire city is a residence that is open to me doing various activities.

Central Park

Central Park, for example, is a clear example of public space like this. With an area of approximately 341 ha, or about 60 blocks x 8 blocks, about 80% of this park is a green open space, the rest of the building / area of the small wake low as toilets, restaurants and skating rink. Anyone is free to use this park for sitting, sleeping, cycling, running, rollerblading, lunch and bask in the area that is not fenced.

Life in New York as hard as in Jakarta, and other metropolitan cities in the world. Here, the diverse people from diverse backgrounds meld. According to government census of 2006, approximately 37% of New Yorkers are immigrants or descendants. All trying to survive.

Do not imagine New Yorkers only white people who established and fancy-free life as in Sex and the City. That's just a fictional portrait of the author's imagination. If anything, the numbers are very few.

Empire State Building

It was obvious why New York became the choice for many people emigrated, both from within and outside the United States. Here all kinds of dreams are allowed. Originally effort worth it, then any chance we can achieve.
